Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Nonprofits

Nonprofits are special; they deliver impactful services to their communities and they have unique requirements, for example:

  • Charities need to manage contributions and track donor activities.

  • Nongovernmental organizations fulfill a wide spectrum of services.

  • Faith-based organizations and ministries need tools to manage in-person events, outreach, contributions, and case management.

  • Associations interact with members and constituents through communications, meetings, publications, certifications, training, and other activities.

In the past, nonprofits had to choose between adopting off-the-shelf products intended for commercial companies and building custom solutions that allows them to communicate with key stakeholders efficiently and effectively as well as manage several key activities.

Nonprofit organizations can use Microsoft Dynamics 365 Power Apps to manage many of the activities detailed above as well as many more. The most prevalent are three traditional Dynamics 365 apps:

  • Dynamics 365 Sales – publicly funded organizations need sales functionality for pursuing grants, selling items such as books and other publications, and, in some cases, seeking contributions.

  • Dynamics 365 Marketing – marketing automation is the basis of outreach activities such sharing news and tracking engagement with web content.

  • Dynamics 365 Customer Service – exceptional service and responsiveness is critical for nonprofits, in particular membership organizations and ideal for volunteer tracking and recruiting activities.

Many nonprofits continue to use spreadsheets or third-party solutions, but you may not need to. You can utilize and manage your customer relationship management (CRM) needs using Dynamics 365. With Dynamics 365, you can:

  • Automate outreach activities to the public, members and other stakeholders

  • Improve customer service and offer online knowledge bases and ticket creation

  • Track your pursuit of sales and grant opportunities

Microsoft Dynamics 365 has many features, including:

  • User interface. Microsoft specializes in usability, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 contains a fully featured user interface based on Microsoft standards. Outlook integration means that CRM features in Dynamics 365 can be accessed without leaving Microsoft Outlook and Office 365, a key benefit to many users.

  • Security. You get a fully developed system for user authentication, user administration and role-based security, based on Active Directory. The security is highly granular, allowing you to control access to individual records.

  • Data model. The platform includes extensive templates for tracking organizations, people, contacts, contracts, marketing activities and service activities using the Common Data Service.

  • Workflow engine. You can build business workflows to route transactions and track progress of work activities based on Power Apps.

  • Reporting. Start with a set of prebuilt reports and an extensible reporting architecture (Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Service), ad hoc query tool, and report export to Excel and PDF files. Microsoft Power BI provides visualization for data stored in Dynamics 365.

  • Microsoft Cloud. The Microsoft Cloud hosts your Dynamics solutions, so they meet the highest reliability and security standards. Government agencies are eligible for even higher security cloud environments.
